What is the difference between Male and Female adapters?

We sometimes get asked by our customers what the difference is between “male” and “female” plug adapters and connectors, and just why do we use those terms?

Male connectors (also sometimes referred to as “Jacks”) have a protruding pin, and a design that fits inserts into the female.

The Female connector meanwhile, features a hollow socket which the male fits inside of. Female adapters are also sometimes referred to as “plugs”. As for the reason for their names? I’ll leave that for you to figure out…
