Setting up the camera locations for your home security system is one of the most important aspects of installation, as a badly placed camera can mean the difference between catching a criminal or missing them entirely. It’s only natural then, that this is one of the things customers are most cautious about when planning and buying a kit. It raised a few eyebrows this week then, when the UK’s most senior police officer suggested a method of home CCTV camera positioning that is directly at odds with the most common methods advised by installers…
The ability to view your CCTV on a smartphone or tablet is now one of the first features people ask for when searching for a new security system. It’s easy to see why- the ability to check in on your...

I help manage a small warehouse property on a trading estate. Recently there has been some break-ins on other properties on the estate, so we are now looking at improving our security systems. We have a small security office by the entrance of the property, across the car park from the warehouse, and want to have security monitors in this office viewing 4 cameras in the warehouse. Unfortunately we can’t run a cable, as it would have to pass over the car park, and we still need vandal proof cameras, so we’ve been told wired cameras with transmitters are the way to go. The prices for 4 transmitter packs however are quite expensive, and way beyond our budget. Are there any ways we can have a similar set up for within our budget, perhaps using an IR repeater?
Perhaps counterintuitively, one of the things that often separates professional security cameras from lower quality CCTV equipment is that professional cameras almost never feature built-in microphones. Whilst the most basic wireless cameras have compact built-in microphones, even the most fully-specced...
In our CCTV news this week we see UFOs speeding around an industrial site in Russia and a thief who took a Bernardos charity box from a gift shop in Bristol.
One of the most important things to consider when purchasing a complete CCTV system– and one of the most overlooked- is the question of how much storage you need for your recorder. Just like a computer, most CCTV DVRs are...
